Justice for Brenda: Why We're Raising Funds for Critical DNA Testing

In the early morning hours of May 9, 1981, the body of Brenda Harden Peters was found in a wooded area of Mobile, Alabama. She has been beaten, stabbed, and left naked in a remote stretch of Tillman's Corner, discarded like trash. She was only 21 years old.
Brenda was a mother. A sister. A daughter. A friend. And more than four decades later, her murder remains unsolved.
At Murder Creek Media, we believe that cases like Brenda's don't go cold by accident. They go cold when the people with the power to solve them stop asking questions. We're here to ask those questions.
Why DNA Testing in Brenda's Case Matters Now More Than Ever
When we started investigating Brenda's case, we were shocked by what we found. Leads that had never been followed. Witnesses who were never interviewed. A confession that doesn't match the timeline or the physical evidence. Suspects with long histories of violence walking free while Brenda's family was left in the dark.
But we also found something else: hope.
There is physical evidence in Brenda's case that may hold DNA. Evidence that was collected in 1981 but never compared to a suspect using today's technology. Advances in forensic science now make it possible to detect, isolate, and identify DNA profiles even from degraded or limited samples.
This evidence could do one of two things:
Confirm a suspect's involvement
Or rule out individuals who have lived under a cloud of suspicion for decades
Either way, it's a powerful step in a case that has stood still for too long.

Why We Need Your Help
Getting this DNA tested isn't as simple as you might think. Because Brenda's case is unsolved and still technically open, we have to work with a complex system of permissions, procedures, and partnerships.
We've already made significant progress. We've located the evidence, consulted the experts, and identified the legal and logical steps needed. Now, we need to fund the next phase: forensic DNA analysis through a private accredited lab. The cost of this testing is expected to run $2,035.00.
As an independent investigative outlet, Murder Creek Media is not backed by a production company or grant funding. We're a small, woman-led team powered by passion, truth-seeking, and a refusal to let forgotten cases stay buried.
We do this work because it matters.
But we can't do it alone.
How You Can Make a Difference
This fundraiser is about more than money. It's about community. About showing Brenda's family - and others like them - that someone still cares. That someone is still fighting. That it's not too late.
Here's how you can help.
Make a Donation
Every dollar helps us get closer to funding the lab testing Brenda deserves. Whether it's $5 or $500, your contribution sends a powerful message: Brenda's life mattered. Her story matters.
Even if you can't give, you can still make a huge impact. Share this post with your network. Send it to someone who believes in justice. Post it on social media. The more people who hear about Brenda, the more pressure we can put on the system, and the more likely it is that we find answers.
Talk About It
One of the biggest barriers in unsolved cases is silence. Start conversations. Ask questions. Keep Brenda's name in the room.
What Happens Next?
Once we raise enough to cover DNA testing, we'll:
Follow the submission of the evidence for analysis
Review the lab's finding with law enforcement
Share any updates publicly with our listeners and supporters (as the case permits)
Continue pushing for justice, accountability, and answers
We believe in transparency, and we promise to keep you informed every step of the way.
Thank you for believing in this mission. For being the kind of person who stops and reads. Who cares. Who acts.
Let's bring Brenda Peters the justice she never got. Together.
