About Us

A rising force in investigative audio, Murder Creek Media was founded by investigative podcaster and media producer Neeli Faulkner. The company made its debut with the true crime podcast Skeptical, a wrongful-conviction deep dive that helped unearth new evidence in a decades-old murder case. That evidence is now being used in post-conviction appeals. Recognized with a Gracie Awards Honorable Mention for Investigative Audio, Murder Creek Media is committed to producing integrity-driven storytelling that challenges systems, centers facts, and gives voice to those too often ignored.

With projects including Murder in Mobile County, a cold case docuseries currently under active investigation, and Make It Make Sense, Alabama, a commentary and analysis podcast examining cases, institutions, and public narratives across the state that don’t withstand scrutiny, Murder Creek Media continues to build a catalog of work rooted in documentation, accountability, and ethical reporting.

Our storytelling makes a difference.

At Murder Creek Media, we don’t just tell stories. We investigate claims, examine records, challenge official narratives, and ask questions when something doesn’t add up.

We are a woman-owned investigative media company and advocacy-driven podcasting studio focused on true crime, criminal justice accountability, and documented analysis. Our work spans wrongful convictions, cold cases, missing persons, and systemic failures. We focus on what can be verified, what has been overlooked, and what deserves closer scrutiny.

Our team is made up of researchers, analysts, and storytellers who are willing to sit with complexity and follow the facts wherever they lead. That means asking hard questions. Sometimes uncomfortable ones. We believe justice should not depend on visibility, influence, or privilege, and we work to hold institutions accountable when transparency breaks down.

With empathy at our core and documentation as our foundation, our mission is simple. To ensure stories are examined responsibly, victims are not erased by silence, and power is never immune from scrutiny.

The Story Behind Our Name

The name "Murder Creek" may strike you as unusual, but it carries a powerful story of historical injustice and the pursuit of justice—values that resonate deeply with our mission.

A Historical Narrative of Injustice and Justice

In 1788, a tragic event unfolded in the territory of present-day Conecuh County, Alabama. During the turbulent times of the Revolutionary War, Colonel McGillivray, a Creek chieftain, formed alliances with many loyalists, including Colonel Kirkland of South Carolina. On their way to Pensacola, Florida, Kirkland, his son, nephew, and several others stayed at McGillivray's home. McGillivray, wishing to ensure their safe passage, sent a trusted servant to guide them.

Tragically, as Kirkland’s party camped by a creek, they were ambushed by a notorious group consisting of Istillicha (a feared Hillabee Indian), a fugitive murderer known as Cat, and a violent man named Bob, who was enslaved by a local trader. Under the cover of night, these assailants brutally murdered Kirkland and his companions, sparing only three enslaved men.

The next day, upon hearing of the massacre, McGillivray swiftly dispatched men to capture the murderers. While Cat was apprehended, the others escaped. In a determined act of justice, McGillivray's agent, Milfort, transported Cat back to the scene of the crime. There, at the blood-stained creek, Cat was executed, symbolizing a measure of justice for the heinous act committed.

This creek, forever marked by the tragedy, came to be known as Murder Creek—a name echoing both the horror of the crime and the relentless pursuit of justice.

Our Mission

At Murder Creek Media, we draw inspiration from this story. Just as McGillivray sought justice for the slain travelers, we strive to uncover the truth and advocate for those who have been silenced. Our name reflects a history of harm being acknowledged rather than ignored, and our commitment to examining injustice wherever systems fail.

Welcome to Murder Creek Media - where every story matters and justice is our mission.
