What is Southbound and Silent about?
At Murder Creek Media, we believe every missing person deserves to be remembered, their stories told, and their cases kept in the public eye. That's why we're launching a new podcast: Southbound and Silent - a weekly series dedicated to highlighting missing persons cases across the southern United States.
Each week, we'll explore disappearances from Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, Tennessee, Kentucky, Louisiana, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Texas. We'll review the details of each case, speaking with family members, law enforcements, and experts to piece together the most comprehensive picture possible. Our goal is to reignite interest in these cases, bring new attention to those who have vanished, and provide a voice for the families still searching for answers.
Missing Persons Cases in the United States
In the United States, approximately 600,000 individuals go missing each year, with about 4,400 unidentified bodies recovered annually. According to the FBI's National Crime Information Center (NCIC), 563, 389 missing person records were entered in 2023. Notably, in 2023, 224,706 persons of color were reported missing, with 162,755 of them under the age of 18. These figures underscore the critical need for continued awareness and action to address the issue of missing persons across the nation.
